Symposium Overview
The world is facing various challenges such as poverty, hunger, climate change, and social disparity. Economic growth has not necessarily led to the solution of these problems. On the contrary, it has increased the disparity. Furthermore, the Corona disaster has brought to the surface the contradictions and problems that countries and regions are facing, and there is no time to lose.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
In this symposium, researchers from Japan and abroad will give talks on the politics of the SDGs, i.e., the safety and ethical issues of technological innovation, and the trade-off between the environment and the economy, and discuss these issues with the audience. Will new technologies be able to create a “society where no one is left behind”? How can a fundamental shift in values take place?
